1.Purpose and Scope
HATV (hereinafter, «the Application») is an application for Android TV and Google TV devices that allows the visualization and control of smart home devices through integration with external platforms, primarily Home Assistant.
These terms govern the relationship between the developer («the Developer») and the person who downloads, installs or uses the Application («the User»). Use of the Application implies full and unconditional acceptance of these terms.
2.Acceptance and Modifications
By installing or using the Application, the User declares to have read, understood and accepted these terms.
The Developer may modify these terms at any time for legal, technical or commercial reasons. The version in force at any given time is the one published in the Application itself and in the Google Play listing. Continued use after an update implies acceptance of the modified version.
3.Description of the Service
The Application provides an Android TV-optimized interface that connects to a Home Assistant server configured by the User. Through this connection it displays the state of entities (lights, plugs, sensors, cameras, blinds, climate systems, automations, scenes, etc.) and allows compatible actions to be executed.
The Application does not provide the smart home service itself: it acts as a client for the User's own Home Assistant server.
4.License of Use
The Developer grants the User a personal, non-transferable, revocable and non-exclusive license to use the Application on devices authorized by the distribution platform (Google Play).
The following are expressly prohibited:
- Redistributing, reselling, renting or assigning the Application or its license to third parties.
- Decompiling, reverse engineering, disassembling or modifying the Application's code, except to the extent permitted by law.
- Circumventing, disabling or altering the Application's licensing, verification or protection mechanisms.
- Using the Application for commercial purposes other than personal domestic use.
5.Free Version and Pro Version — In-App Purchases
The Application is distributed in two modes:
- Free version: includes advertising and applies limits on the number of usable devices and favorite panels.
- Pro version: removes advertising, lifts limits and enables all features.
The Pro version is acquired through a one-time payment processed via Google Play Billing. Payment, invoicing, taxes, purchase validation and payment incident management are the exclusive responsibility of Google, in accordance with Google Play's Terms of Service and privacy policy.
Optionally, the Developer may provide the User with an alternative activation code linked to the unique installation identifier. This code is verified locally on the device and is not transmitted to external servers.
Pro status is persisted locally on the device; reinstalling the Application or changing devices may require a new purchase restoration from Google Play.
6.Refund Policy
In-app purchases are made through Google Play and are subject to Google Play's refund policy, which allows the User to request a refund within the first 48 hours after purchase directly from their Google account.
After that period, the User may contact the Developer through the support channel indicated on Google Play, who will consider the request on a case-by-case basis without any obligation of refund except in cases provided by applicable consumer law.
7.Advertising
The free version of the Application includes advertising served by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC).
To display ads, AdMob may access and process data such as the device advertising identifier (Advertising ID), IP address, device type, operating system and technical data from the ad request. The processing of such data is carried out in accordance with Google AdMob's privacy policy.
If the law applicable to the User requires obtaining consent for advertising processing (for example, GDPR/EU in the European Economic Area or equivalent laws), the Application will display the corresponding consent form managed by Google. The User can review, limit or reset their advertising identifier from their Android device settings.
Upon acquiring the Pro version, advertising is completely disabled.
8.Intellectual Property
The HATV Application, including its source code, design, interface, graphics, texts, sounds, icons, trademarks and documentation, is the exclusive property of the Developer and is protected by national and international legislation on intellectual and industrial property.
The acquisition or use of the Application does not transfer to the User any intellectual or industrial property rights over it. Trademarks, logos and designations of third parties (Home Assistant, Google, Android TV, etc.) belong to their respective owners and are used solely for descriptive purposes.
9.Dependence on External Services
HATV depends on third-party services and systems, in particular:
- Home Assistant, managed by the User, which exposes devices, states and actions.
- Google Play and Google Play Billing, for distribution and purchase management.
- Google AdMob, for advertising in the free version.
The availability, correct operation and compatibility of the devices displayed in the Application depend exclusively on these external systems, over which the Developer has no control.
10.Limitation of Liability for Compatibility
The Developer:
- Does not guarantee future compatibility with all devices or integrations available in Home Assistant.
- Is not obliged to adapt the Application to changes, updates or modifications made by Home Assistant or any other external system.
- Does not guarantee the correct operation of devices after third-party updates.
Any changes to Home Assistant or its integrations may cause a total or partial loss of Application features.
11.Device Classification and Control
The Application may reclassify, group or represent devices differently from their original definition in Home Assistant (for example, a plug displayed as a light) for organizational and user experience purposes.
This reclassification is purely visual and does not modify the actual behavior of the device or its configuration in the source system.
12.Privacy and Data Processing
The Developer does not collect, store or transmit personal, usage, statistical or analytical data to its own servers.
Data stored locally on the User's device
(never sent to the Developer)
- Address (URL) of the Home Assistant server.
- Home Assistant server access token, stored encrypted via the Android Keystore (AES/GCM).
- User preferences: favorites, panels, custom entities, sound settings, theme and Pro license status.
- Unique installation identifier used for the alternative licensing mechanism described in section 5, generated locally and without linkage to personal data.
Data processed by third parties
- Google Play and Google Play Billing process data associated with the download and purchase (Google account, payment method, transaction history) in accordance with their own privacy policy. The Developer does not have access to such data.
- Google AdMob processes technical and advertising data as described in section 7, only in the free version.
Network connections
- The Application connects to the Home Assistant server indicated by the User.
- The Application connects to Google servers for purchase verification and ad delivery where applicable.
- The Application does not make connections to the Developer's own servers.
The User is solely responsible for the custody and security of their access token, their Home Assistant server and their home network. Withdrawal of consent and the exercise of rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability over data processed by Google must be exercised directly with Google.
13.Third-Party Services
The Application incorporates the following third-party libraries and services:
- Google Play Billing Library — in-app purchase management.
- Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) — advertising in the free version.
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — advertising consent management when required by applicable law.
- AndroidX, Jetpack Compose and Jetpack Security — official Google/Android development and encryption components.
- OkHttp — HTTP and WebSocket client used to communicate with Home Assistant.
Each of these components is governed by its own license and, where applicable, by the privacy policy of the corresponding provider.
14.Minimum Age
The Application is intended for persons over 13 years of age, in accordance with Google Play requirements and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In countries or regions where the minimum age of consent is higher, the age established by local law shall apply.
Minors must use the Application under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
15.Use at User's Own Risk
The User is solely responsible for:
- The configuration and maintenance of their Home Assistant system.
- The security of their home network and access credentials.
- The use of devices controlled through the Application, including those that may affect home security (locks, heating, cameras, etc.).
- Compliance with applicable law on remote control of devices in their jurisdiction.
The Developer is not responsible for damages arising from misuse, configuration errors or failures in external systems.
16.Service Availability
The Application is provided «as is» and «as available», without express or implied warranties of:
- Continuous or uninterrupted availability.
- Absence of errors or defects.
- Universal compatibility with all devices, operating system versions or network configurations.
- Fitness for a specific purpose.
The Developer reserves the right to modify, limit, suspend or discontinue Application features without prior notice.
17.Updates
Application updates are optional and distributed through Google Play. Publication of an update does not imply:
- Indefinite support for previous versions.
- Compatibility with future versions of Home Assistant or its integrations.
- Implementation of new integrations, devices or features.
The Developer may remove features or change the licensing model in future versions as indicated in these terms.
18.Disclaimer of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer shall not be liable for:
- Direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from the use or inability to use the Application.
- Failures, damages or unexpected behavior of smart home devices.
- Data loss, loss of profits or service interruptions.
- Third-party actions, including unauthorized access to the Home Assistant server or the User's network.
Nothing in these terms excludes the Developer's liability in cases where such exclusion is not permitted by law, such as those arising from fraud or gross negligence.
19.Termination
Breach by the User of any of these conditions will entitle the Developer to withdraw or limit access to the Application and its features, without right to a refund where permitted by applicable law.
The User may stop using the Application and uninstall it at any time.
20.Applicable Law and Jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Spanish law.
For the resolution of any dispute arising from the use of the Application, the parties submit to the courts and tribunals of the Developer's domicile, unless consumer protection regulations establish a mandatory jurisdiction in favor of the User.
